  • Good evening everyone, yes, I'm finally updating.  I had every intention of updating when I got back Thursday evening, but I was understandably tired, so I slept.  Then Friday was a short day which ended about 1:30 and I took a nice long nap and then went and saw a movie.  I then got back and went to sleep :)

Yesterday was the first time the temperature has dropped since April.  We must have had a cold front come in  and actually stay in since it was i n the 70's all day long.  Granted that it was rainy all day and I couldn't go golfing, but it was nice to not be dying in the heat.  I watched a matinee movie.  Then I shopped around for a bit, but didn't buy anything.  I then came home and had an exciting day of napping, TV, and played some games.

Today was a little of the same.  It was cooler than my week outside, but warmer than yesterday.  It was in the mid 70s to low 80s in the morning so I decided to go on a little run.  I was just going to do 3 miles or so but ended up over 5.  It was a pretty good run, the difference in temperature sure was a nice change!  Later in the day I did some shopping, got some lunch, played 9 holes of golf, and then had some dinner.  Not a thrilling day, but certainly wasn't too bad.

I'm down to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and driving home.  I can't believe that I'm finally in my last week here.  I can't wait to see Fort Gordon shrink away in my rearview mirror once and for all.  It will be so nice to be back home!

Now, it's time to expand on my little FTX (Field Training Exercise).  This one wasn't the most physically intensive, but it certainly was one of the most tiring.  The unrelenting heat and humidity just took it's tool on me.  If you have ever spent over a week sweating non-stop then you will understand.  It never even got below 80 degrees at night, so even during the night I was sweating.  Granted it has been hot down here for a long time, but I spent the vast majority of my time sitting in air conditioned classrooms, so I was far from acclimatized and i surely felt it.  Towards the end I started to get a little better, but it sucked.  To rub salt in my wound I developed prickly heat on my back.  I had this damn thing in basic training and it is terribly annoying.  Basically the sweat glands get irritated and it feels like people are shoving wire brushes into your back, it just sucked.  It is finally going away, but it's still there whenever I sweat.

The two movies that I saw this weekend was World Trade Center and Talladega Nights.  Both movies were quite good and I'd recommend them to everybody.  WTC was pretty full when we saw it, and it is was obvious from the reaction of the crowd that much of the USA still remembers 9/11, and hopefully the upcoming anniversary won't be shoved aside like it was last year.  The one thing that really impressed me about the movie was that Oliver Stone did not politicize the movie or twist the movie around.  The movie stayed true to the real life story of the parties involved.

Talladega Nights was just funny.  Will Farrell did a great job in it, and he was definitely aided by a good cast.  Even if you don't like NASCAR, you'll probably enjoy the movie, plus, there is no shortage of humor pointed at rednecks, so you can't beat that!

Ok, it's after 11 and tomorrow is an early day.  We don't have PT, but we do have to start out processing.  I'm not sure how long that will take, but it will probably be at least one full day to finish it up.  We have something like 15 places to go and clear, so I'll be busy.  Have a great new week!
